want to see what kind of downtime it takes to evoke a positive response?

The DDO game servers will be offline on Monday, March 30 from 3:00AM - 5:00PM EST (-5 GMT) while the servers and all supporting systems are moved to a new datacenter. Additionally, the forums, website, and Compendium will be offline from 1:00AM – 5:00PM. We apologize for the inconvenience and will have everything back online as quickly as possible!

In the fourth quarter of 2008, we relocated DDO, Asheron's Call, and some of our websites to a new datacenter. Our commitment to quality requires us to relentlessly evaluate our strategies for their effectiveness. Unfortunately, the move did not result in the level of service that we expected. That means we have to make a change in order to achieve our goal of maintaining the best game environment in the world.

On Monday we are relocating to a new datacenter that will provide the level of service and redundancy that we and you expect. This physical relocation is a huge undertaking that will unavoidably result in a significant downtime for DDO and AC players, as well as for the users of some of our websites. We apologize for the downtime, and are confident that this relocation will provide the performance and reliability that has been a standard of Turbine during our nearly 10 year history of operating quality games.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this move, and are looking forward to delivering a much improved experience for all players.

all day monday? not bad if it fixes all the lag and stuff. I dont know if its the server or my internet card but every once in a while my latency will spike to 20,000. Prolly my card though. Most people will be a work/school during the downtime though. Thats a +++

I think the main reason they are getting a primarily positive response is that this is the first downtime they have come out in front of and really taken charge of. The other scheduled ones were sort of thrust upon us with little or no customer service consideration, this time we get a nice letter and full explanation. Hmmm....amazing what some common sense will do.

Working in the IT field (for a hospital no less) I will say that Downtimes when planned normally go over way better than downtimes you can not control. And yes both happen.

The key is to limit the uncontrolled downtimes which hopefully todays move will do, along with hoping it fixes the lag or at least some of it.

Yes they did choose a time they feel will impact the least of their customers game time and also limit the labor costs (due to most of it being normally during working hours for the US). I tend to feel for our friends from Austrailia and New Zealand as most major downtimes fall during their prime time.

btw, Meghan Rodberg (i believe that's Patience) posted on the escapist website that everything is on schedule right now. Of course, posts there rougly equate to public relations statements, so who knows when things'll be back up.

If you want, you can take this opportunity to vote in The Escapist's March Mayhem contest. Turbine has made it to the Great 8, but is currently losing to valve.
